KumbhBazaar

AI-assisted marketplace connecting pilgrims with local vendors and service providers.

KumbhBazaar is an open research prototype investigating how conversational AI and open protocols can make micro-merchants visible to millions of visitors. Rather than channeling transactions through a proprietary platform that takes high commissions, KumbhBazaar studies decentralized discovery that directly empowers local artisans, small eateries, and stay providers.

Voice Onboarding

Allows street vendors to describe their offerings and daily locations by speaking in their native language.

Fair Discovery

Prevents large commercial aggregators from crowding out small, informal sellers through class-aware search ranking.

Open Rails

Enables direct pilgrim-to-vendor payments using standard UPI and open network interfaces without intermediate lock-in.

Price Transparency

Provides indicative price bands for common pilgrim essentials to reduce overcharging and promote trust.

Taxonomy & Design

Designing for diverse merchant capabilities

A major challenge in high-density gatherings is that merchants have drastically different digital literacies and technical capacities.

Informal & Micro Vendors

Typical Archetype

Flower sellers, puja thali stalls, mobile tea carts, and ritual guides

Design Focus

Structured data exchange supporting standard open network rails without centralized platform commission.
